JOHN C. COOK

John C. Cook is a founding partner of the Fairfax law firm of Cook & Kitts, PLLC.  Mr. Cook’s practice emphasizes the representation of executives, employees, and small businesses in employment law matters, including advice and counsel regarding workplace issues; review and negotiation of severance agreements and executive contracts; and litigation arising out of breach of contract, non-competition agreements, Family and Medical Leave Act issues, discrimination claims, and Fair Labor Standards Act (overtime pay) disputes.

His practice also includes a wide range of other civil litigation matters. He has lectured frequently and published articles on civil litigation and employment law issues.  In addition to his full-time law practice with the firm, John also serves on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, where he represents Braddock District. 

Mr. Cook received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Gettysburg College, where he was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. degree from George Washington University. He is a former chair of the Employment Law Section of the Fairfax County Bar Association and is a member of the New York State and the Virginia bar associations, the Virginia State Bar and The District of Columbia Bar. He is a mediator for the District of Columbia Superior Court and a conciliator for the Fairfax County Circuit Court. Virginia Business magazine named Mr. Cook one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” in its December 2004, 2005, and 2006 editions. Richmond Magazine named him a Virginia “Superlawyer” in 2006 and 2007.
